Balloon Mapping Workshop July 21-22 at the Andy Guest State Park

Denizen Media is partnering with the Public Laboratory for Open Technology and Science (PLOTS) to teach balloon mapping, a grassroots means of creating aerial imagery using tethered helium balloons 5-1/2' in diameter. The July workshop was taught by Adam Griffith, one of the original developers of the technology.

It places in the hands of the public, image-making capability usually inaccessible to them.
By democratizing aerial photography, citizens have a tool for environmental and humanitarian documentation. Social justice and emergency relief organizations are beginning to recognize the value of crowd-sourcing such imagery, and it also gives environmentalists aerial-monitoring capability—including infrared technology for tracking changes in vegetation.
